Ficus Carica or the Common Fig

We do not have a fig tree, you know, Boris Podrecca said when, on a late August afternoon, Gizi and him came to visit us in our Silban court. He was impressed with the two fig trees that blocked his way to our house. The two figs, which our dear Šime V. had planted in the scorching August heat four years ago. The planting was preceded by a somewhat pagan ritual which involved digging two holes in the ground, and leaving them exposed for a few days to encourage the soil to start breathing.
